Description: University President John Hannah observes as Michigan Lt. Governor Philip A. Hart signs the 1955 Michigan State University Bill. Rep. John J. McCune, sponsor of the bill, watches on. The bill officially changed the name of the school from Michigan State College of Agriculture and Applied Science to Michigan State University of Agriculture and Applied Science. The name was shortened to Michigan State University in 1964.
