Description: Gladys Beckwith graduated from Michigan State University with an undergraduate degree in English and went on for a Master's in English and a PhD in Education with a minor in English. She began in the MSU tenure stream in 1967 teaching American Thought and Language and College of Education courses in gender with a concentration on writing. She developed the Michigan Women’s Studies Association which, although unsuccessful as a faculty association, was able to bring a sex discrimination suit against the university to make salaries of women faculty commensurate with salaries of male faculty. Beckwith also created the Michigan Women’s Historical Center and Hall of Fame.
