Description: Jack Shingleton graduated from MSC in 1948 and was hired by John Hannah in 1949 to serve as an analyst in Personnel. He soon became Assistant Director of Personnel under Len Glander and was responsible for surveying MSU departments and classifying all non-academic employee positions to decide titles and salaries. He was also instrumental in replacing the 44-hour workweek with the present-day 40-hour workweek.

Shingleton served as assistant to the Secretary of the Board of Trustees under Jack Breslin and became Director of Placement in 1963. During his 24-year tenure in this position, he built a job placement program that was considered one of the nation's most innovative. Recognizing a lack of good information on the job market for graduates, Shingleton created MSU's annual Recruiting Trends survey which is still being used today. He also instituted follow-up surveys to ascertain how recent graduates fared in the job marked and created MSU's Collegiate Employment Research Institute.

Shingleton worked with President Emeritus John Hannah to secure funding for the Wharton Center and retired in 1987. He also served on the MSU Board of Trustees for 8 years beginning in 1999.
