Description: Portrait of Mrs. Mary J. C. Merrill, Librarian, in 1885. The inscription reads: "Mrs Mary J.C. Merrill. Librarian. M.[arried] Prof L.G. Carpenter. D. 1921." Merrill was the second woman to earn a B.S. from Michigan Agricultural College, and the first woman to earn a M.S. degree.
