Title: MSU receives ownership of Pewabic Pottery

Description: Pewabic Pottery began in 1903 in Detroit Michigan. The founders were Mary Chase Stratton and Horace Caulkins. Stratton died in 1961 and in 1966 ownership was transferred to Michigan State University. The Pottery was part of the University's continuing education program for the next ten years. In 1976 it was transferred to University Extension Program and reported to Extension until 1979. In 1979 the Pewabic Society was organized as a non-profit to administer the operations of the Pottery. In 1981 M.S.U. transferred ownership of the Pottery to the Society.
