Title: Name of College changes to Michigan State College of Agriculture and Applied Science
Description: In 1925 the name of the college was changed from Michigan Agricultural College (M.A.C.) to Michigan State College of Agriculture and Applied Science (M.S.C.).  Arthur C. MacKinnon, a Michigan Congressman from Bay County, argued that the M.A.C. name was a handicap to those who graduated with anything other than an agriculture degree.  The name change would reflect that the college's focus had expanded beyond agriculture and into other areas, such as engineering, liberal arts, and home economics.
