This would mark the third time in MSU's history that the university would close. Due to 20 inches of snow, the university shut down for two days (January 26-27). 
The blizzard, known as the Cleveland Superbomb, was one of the worst in Midwest history.  Strong winds caused large snowdrifts, which led to untraversable roads.  Michigan Governor William Milliken declared a state of emergency.
