Mary Mayo was a leader in the Michigan Grange and influential among local farm wives, and was adamant that women acquire the same practical education as men. She wrote articles in the M.A.C. Record voicing her support of the creation of women's courses at M.A.C. Her professional outlook and high standing made her campaign a success, and a women's curriculum was started that year.
