Title: Iota Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Founded
Description: “Iota Chapter of the National fraternity, Delta Tau Delta, was established as the first secret society at Michigan Agricultural College during the spring of 1872, by eight students. They held their first meetings in their respective rooms, but soon were granted permission by the faculty to hold meetings in College classrooms. Because of the opposition to fraternities on the campus at that time, the members labeled their organization as ‘a private literary Society.’
The Fraternity conducted meetings somewhat along literary lines in 1873. In 1874 internal strife within the society resulted in withdrawal of four members. Activities of the society were not in keeping with the policies of the College, and as a result the fraternity was permanently dissolved by College authorities in 1898.”
